Inca Jungle itinerary 4 Days / 3 Nights
Day 1: Cusco – Abra Málaga – Santa María.
We will pick you up at your hotel to start this tour, with transport from Cusco to Abra Málaga, located at 4300 m altitude. We will make a stop to admire the scenery, take some photos and put on the gear to begin a bike descent from that spot. Along the way we will see the Huamanmarca archaeological complex, and watch how the landscape and weather change as we descend. Then we will arrive at Santa María, a town where we can rest and from where we can do rafting (optional) in the afternoon. In the evening we will have dinner and rest.
Day 2: Santa María – Inca Trail – Santa Teresa.
We will have an early breakfast to start today’s trek. We will be able to see some waterfalls along the way, and the diversity of flora and fauna that the landscape offers. In the afternoon, we will pass by the Cocalmayo hot springs (optional), where we can relax in the pools and recover from the hike. Rest will be in the city of Santa Teresa, where we can have dinner and rest.
Day 3: Santa Teresa – Hidroeléctrica – Aguas Calientes.
We will get up early to have breakfast and head to a place where we can do zipline. Afterwards, we will travel by vehicle to Hidroeléctrica, from where we will have to walk for 3 hours to Aguas Calientes. We will have views of the mountains as we move along the train line. In Aguas Calientes, we will have our dinner and the guide will give us the final instructions for the next day when we visit the citadel of Machu Picchu.
Day 4: Machu Picchu – Cusco.
Today we will get up very early to start the walk to the citadel. We will climb the hill by the stairs in about 1 hour and a half. We will arrive at Machu Picchu, one of the seven wonders of the modern world, and we will have a 2‑hour tour to visit its main sectors. The recommendation is to leave the site around 10:00 to start the walk back to Hidroeléctrica, without needing to go back to Aguas Calientes. This saves time and you arrive in time to take the bus back to Cusco, which departs between 14:00 and 14:30. We will not make any stops until we reach the San Francisco Plaza in Cusco, where our tour ends.
Visit to the archaeological site
To enter the Machu Picchu archaeological site you must have the ticket called Llaqta Machu Picchu. Remember that, in case you select a program without a ticket, you can purchase it at the Ministry of Culture’s site.
The ticket will give you access to the archaeological site following one of its 4 circuits, which you must choose once you are at the entrance of the citadel.
